This is Sophie, our new puppy. She is a Silky Terrier. Blanca isn't too crazy about Sophie. At first, Blanca was moping around. Now she seems more tolerant, but she still won't play with Sophie, who tries very hard to get her older sister's attention.
It may take Blanca a little more time. . . afterall, she's been our little princess for 10 years!

30. The end!

I thought I'd never get here. #29 pretty much sums up what I think regarding what I've experienced. One thing I've learned through this program is new things are becoming available everyday on the Internet. I probably wouldn't have bothered to check out what mashups were, even if I'd seen it on one of the sites I use. Mainly because of lack of time.

The main improvement I can suggest is to get Com-IT to recognize the value of what libraries do. It's ridiculous that we're blocked from podcasts and other libraries across the nation are using them to reach out to their customers. One other thing--you might want to rethink how each participant's progress is recorded. The spread sheet nightmare was unbelieveable. Amy Bateman and I were talking and she suggested that perhaps next time this type of program is offered, there should be a beginners and an advanced . I totally agree.

Would I participate again? Yes. I learned some new terminology and discovered things I didn't know about, but being able to do this program in 12 weeks wasn't possible. Each exercise took a different amount of time. It wasn't possible to get that much off the desk time to complete the "things" weekly.

There were problems here and there, but thank you, Cindy, for the work you did on this.

29. Learning 2.0 experience

Overall, I am glad I participated in this discovery program--despite trying to find the time, working on slow computers, being blocked by Websense, etc. There are things I learned that I can't see using again - Rollyo and Technorati, things I already used and knew about--instant messaging and Flickr, and things fun to play with - mashups and 3rd party sites. I hated having to sign up for accounts on sites I knew I wouldn't use again. As far as lifelong learning, technology is moving so fast, who can keep up with it?

I checked out the blogs of three other participants, made comments on each. So one more "thing" to do.

28. Rollyo

I found this site pointless and timeconsuming. It's easier to just quickly search on a search engine than spend time adding search engines in catagories here. Who has the time? Maybe someone at home all day who lives alone and has no responsibilities so they have time to play all day.

27. LibraryThing

I actually like LibraryThing and intend to suggest it to customers. I'd like to think that I'll have time to keep my library up-to-date, but I don't see it happening. I can't get the Html to work properly. I'll fix this link when I figure it out.

25. Podcasts & Vodcasts

I can't say I'm all that crazy about Podcasts, etc. It's time consuming and if you're at work, you can't access it because of the City's filter. The one I was going to watch was someone in a library telling a story. That shouldn't be censored. Also, every time I tried to find one in Yahoo! there was a charge. i know people who enjoy them, but I'm not one of them. Maybe It'll be a challenge to add it to this blog. My coworker and I searched and searched for a podcast to listen to (library related) and we finally found one pharmavoice, which was totally boring and useless.

24. Podcasts

Working with podcasts and vodcasts wasn't successful for me. Again, you can't do this exercise on staff computers. The public computers are too slow and take forever to load. I'm not going to do this at home, either.

Twitter

I chose Mobile Communications from the awards list and read about the different sites for keeping in touch with others. Twitter is kinda cool--a quick way to let others know what you're up. Love it!

Backyard Birds

Cardinal

I love having a bird feeder in my backyard. There's something peaceful about watching Cardinals, Bluejays and other flying creatures land and feast. I'm constantly amazed. I stand at my sink with my binoculars, facinated. When I think that life is treating me unfair or I'm just having a bad day, these flying angels remind me how precious each moment is. VBPLL2

Technorati

Sheesh, just when I think I'm beginning to make sense of what I am learning, I find out there's so much more out there in Web-land to explore. At this point, at least if a customer inquires about Technorati, I'll know what they're talking about. Using it as a tool on a daily basis is a challenge I'm not ready to face, nor do I have time to use it. This tool is only good for someone who sits at a desk and has plenty of time to utilize it.
